Over the Limit 2012 will be more than the regular WWE pay per view.
In a post-Royal Rumble match, CM Punk whipped Daniel Bryan into the corner, stood over Bryan and yelled “Best in the World!” as he rained down punches. Seemingly overnight (and through the magic of WWE promotion) CM Punk has been declared the Best Pro Wrestler in the World. Especally after Punk’s series of matches with Chris Jericho, where Punk defeated Jericho and further claimed the title of “Best in the World”. However, prior to signing with the WWE, when Daniel Bryan was Bryan Danielson, crowds around the world hailed Danielson with chants of “Best in the World”. It didn’t matter who Bryan was in the ring with, he was able to have a great match. In fact, I think Punk yelled “Best in the World” at Bryan in hopes of mocking him for his past moniker. With that in mind, this match at Over the Limit, is much more than just a World Heavyweight title bout. This match will answer a major question once and for all, which pro wrestler is the current “Best in the World”?
In terms of pre match analysis, it should be noted these two have wrestled each other several times in the past. In fact the most recent series of singles matches between these two was a series of champion versus champion bouts used as a lead up to Wrestlemania 28. In that series, we saw several draws and a lot of interference from outside parties, but there was one thing for certain, we were watching two wrestlers who deserve the title of the “Best in the World”. The matches had drama, athleticism, good timing and moments that kept you on the edge of your seat. It allowed fans to see a great clash of styles. You had Punk’s high impact fast paced style (think new Macho Man) pitted against Bryan’s methodical submission based style (think hybrid Bret Hart). The only downside to this series of lead up matches, were that they were done on Monday Night RAW and Smackdown. By doing these matches on RAW and Smackdown, it drastically limited the time in which they could perform. With this new match being set for Over the Limit, who knows what kind of artistry will be made in that ring when these two meet again.
Overall, this match, if not mired down by storyline or not turned into a mockery of the division (Sheamus vs Bryan at Wrestlemania 28), has a heavy chance of becoming “Match of the Year”, and will also determine once and for all who is the current “Best in the World”!
